Traditional Chinese painting has a long and rich history in Taiwan. But during the Japanese colonial period(1895-1945), and again during the latter half of the twentieth century, Western painting styles and techniques were introduced to Taiwan. These outside influences, along with the sweeping social and economic changes of the past half century have produced a diversity of painting styes, unique to Taiwan.
